Vitamin D May Slow Cells’ Aging

A new study suggests that vitamin D supplements may help slow cellular aging by preventing the loss of telomeres, the DNA sequences at the ends of chromosomes that shorten as we age. The research, based on data from the VITamin D and OmegA-3 TriaL (VITAL), found that people who took 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily had less telomere shortening over a four-year period compared to those on a placebo. While the health implications of this are still unclear, the findings could offer insights into how vitamin D impacts aging and disease prevention. However, the study also highlights that excessive vitamin D may have adverse effects, and more research is needed to understand the optimal dosage for slowing aging.
