Study finds why 'night owls' have a higher risk for depression than 'early risers'

A new study has found that "night owls"—those who prefer staying up late—are at a higher risk of depression compared to "early risers." Researchers from the University of Surrey found that night owls tend to experience poorer sleep quality, higher alcohol consumption, and lower mindfulness, all of which contribute to their increased risk for depression. The study highlighted that evening chronotypes often face greater fluctuations in mental health due to these factors. The researchers suggest that improving mindfulness, sleep quality, and reducing alcohol use may help alleviate some of these risks, especially for young adults. These findings underscore the importance of good sleep habits for mental health and suggest that public health campaigns targeting better sleep could be beneficial.

Healthy Fact of the Day: Practicing good posture can improve your overall health by reducing back and neck pain, improving circulation, and boosting energy levels. Proper posture also helps prevent tension headaches and can increase confidence and mood. Making small adjustments to how you sit, stand, and walk throughout the day can have a big impact on your long-term health.
